8webBrain-Based Effective Leadership

This 12-module leadership development program combines current knowledge and tools based on the emerging field of NeuroLeadership with traditional leadership principles. The “Brain-Based Effective Leadership” program is based on best adult learning principles – modules are spaced out over time to allow managers to practice and retain key learning points. The program is highly flexible vis-à-vis the number and subject matter of the modules.

MODULE FOCUS
1 – Whole Brain® Thinking Developing the Whole Brain® thinking abilities of leaders and leadership teams as a means of improving communications, teamwork, leadership capabilities and problem-solving & decision-making abilities.
2- Effective Communications Understanding the importance of communications in the managerial role and the mental complexities of the communication process.
3 – Motivating Employees Understanding the fundamentals of motivating employees, diagnosing employee performance problems and relating employee motivation to performance and retention.
4 – Understanding the Social Brain as a Key Leadership Competency This workshop draws upon emerging knowledge of the brain and is based on a central premise that our brains are wired to be connected to each other. Recognizing that our social behaviour is innate and natural has profound implications for how we manage, coach and motivate employees and how we work together in teams.
5 – The Brain & Building Trust Through Authentic Dialogue The focus of communication in organizations is based on dialogue. However, restricting communications to dialogue is actually quite limiting as this only uses the language-oriented parts of the brain. Research indicates that the use of visual stimuli “lights up” more areas of the brain, enabling employees to expand perspectives and talk more authentically. This builds trust and relationships in the process. This workshop will incorporate a tool called Points of You™ that uses visual stimuli to significantly enhance the depth of organizational communications – an important element in building trust.
6 – Situational Leadership & Delegation Receiving feedback on one’s preferred leadership style, understanding the basics of situational leadership, learning when and how to delegate, understanding other leadership styles and when to apply them and assessing one’s competency level on several dimensions of empowerment and delegation.
7 – Conflict Resolution Diagnosing one’s preferred approaches to managing conflict, better understanding the nature of conflict, distinguishing between constructive and destructive conflict, identifying appropriate strategies to better manage conflict and applying knowledge of the brain to conflict resolution.
8 – The Emotional Brain Emotions play a critical role in the workplace. This reality is either downplayed or not recognized. Neuroscience presents us with compelling evidence that emotional processing is one of the key functions of the brain that must be recognized and managed appropriately. This workshop focuses on the role of emotions in the workplace and the consequences of either suppressing or overly expressing them. Creating a work culture that effectively manages emotions is an important element of this workshop.
9 – The Leader/Manager  as Coach Teaching a proven coaching process and associated skills that motivate direct reports and peers to perform at higher levels. A key focus of this workshop is aligning the motivational drives of the coachee with the strategic objectives of the organization. During the workshop, a coaching plan will be created for a direct report or peer.
10 – Team Leadership Understanding the characteristics of high performing teams; learning the four stages of team development and its implications for team management; understanding the five common team dysfunctions and how to overcome them; reviewing key tips to foster teamwork. Points of You™ will be used to help team members better understand the roles they play on the team.
11 – Meeting Management Incorporate best meeting practices into the organization’s culture.
12 –  The Brain & Change Management This workshop will present evidence that the human brain naturally resists change and will explore the reasons why traditional carrot and stick approaches to change management don’t work. The workshop will explore the concept of paradigms and paradigm shifts, emphasize the need for individuals and teams to better manage change and develop strategies to better implement change initiatives.
