There is no question that the key to establishing and maintaining a long-term competitive advantage is attracting and retaining top talent who use their thinking skills to win the battle for market dominance. The good news is that emerging knowledge of the brain is giving us tools, processes and procedures that allow managers and nonsupervisory employees to think in far greater breadth and depth.
For example we can:
- Increase the depth of our thinking by using transformation thinking techniques to drill down into our implicit memories where relevant knowledge is stored
- Increase the breadth of our thinking by identifying and developing areas of our brains that emit a lower frequency of beta waves – resulting in an avoidance of thinking in those areas of the brain
- Clarify and broaden perspectives by using visual stimuli to awaken more of our brains’ resources
- Identify and break bad habits that are stored in an area of the brain called the basal ganglia
- Enhance our leadership abilities by better understanding that the human brain reacts to social stimuli in organizations as potential threats
Neuroscience is helping us improve the way we coach, build high performing teams, lead people and solve complex problems. Organizations that ignore the above reality do so at their own peril!
